In a splendid display of tradition and anticipation, the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) is set to host its annual Capping, Pinning, and Lighting Ceremony on August 31, 2023, at 2 PM. This momentous event will take place within the grandeur of the VMUF Event Center, where 351 second-year nursing students will gather to celebrate a crucial step in their journey towards becoming skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals.

Amidst a backdrop of camaraderie and unity, the students have chosen the soulful melody of "Today My Life Begins" by Bruno Mars to resonate through the hall. The lyrics of the song aptly capture the sentiment of embarking on a new chapter, embracing growth, and looking forward to the challenges and rewards that lie ahead.

This time-honored ceremony holds deep significance in the world of nursing education. It marks the transition of these aspiring nurses from their theoretical foundation to the practical realm of clinical exposure. The capping, pinning, and lighting ritual symbolizes the moment when students are entrusted with the responsibilities of patient care, while also reinforcing the ethics and values that underscore the nursing profession.

At the helm of the VMUF Nursing Department stands Dean Maria Theresa Ricafort Aguilan, RN, MAN. Her guidance and leadership have been instrumental in nurturing these students, preparing them not only for their clinical duties but also for the broader impact they will have on the healthcare landscape.

In an interview with her, she extends her heartfelt congratulations to all the level 2 nursing students of VMUF through a message for reaching this important milestone in their nursing education. “This event signifies the beginning of your practical work in various affiliating agencies of our college. Rest assured that I, along with the faculty and staff of our college, will guide and teach you all the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to become successful Virginian nurses in the future. I will conclude this message with a quote by Maya Angelou: "As nurses, we have the opportunity to heal the mind, soul, heart, and body of our patients. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Embrace this sentiment as you create a lasting and caring impact on all your clients. Once again, congratulations to our future nurses.” -Dean Aguilan

Gracing the occasion as the guest of honor and speaker is Allan Paris Claveria, MD. With a wealth of medical expertise and a compassionate spirit, Dr. Claveria is poised to inspire the students as they step into their roles as caregivers. His insights are expected to shed light on the symbiotic relationship between doctors and nurses, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving optimal patient outcomes.

The impact of this ceremony on the students is profound. It instills a sense of pride and responsibility, a recognition of the trust bestowed upon them to alleviate pain and promote healing. It bridges the gap between theory and practice, fostering a newfound confidence that empowers these students to face the challenges of their clinical duties with courage and compassion.

The Capping, Pinning, and Lighting Ceremony is more than a mere ritual; it's a testament to dedication and the pursuit of excellence. It captures the essence of the nursing profession – a potent blend of knowledge, empathy, and resilience. As the event draws near, the excitement in the air is palpable, as these second-year nursing students of VMUF stand on the precipice of a transformative journey, ready to embrace the profound impact they are destined to make.
